This morning, I really wanted something strawberry pineapple but had never used pineapple in a smoothie. So today was an experiment!
In the recipe below, everything but the pineapple is my base smoothie recipe. By adjusting the amounts of each ingredient and adding extras, you can really get a wide range of flavors.
Start out with a good handful of spinach, the juice of one orange and several chunks of pineapple.
Blend that until smooth and then add a handful of partially frozen strawberries. I buy the gargantuan bag of frozen strawberries from Costco and just microwave a few to partially thaw them. They break up better in the blender that way, but still add thickness to the smoothie.
The great thing about these is that they freeze and thaw very well. I have frozen them in mason jars and eaten them like sherbet (sorbet? Is there a difference?) and I've let them thaw out enough to drink as well. There is very little separation and it tastes pretty good too! So making these ahead works out well.
